Some Animations
There was a time when I created music, voices, and sound effects for animations, including several which were nominated for Academy Awards.
The Big Snit and La Salla, by my friend Richard Condie, were both nominated, and Bob’s Birthday, by Alison Snowden and David Fine, won an Oscar in 1994.
In those days, animations were made by a very small group of people, not like today where a midsize town is employed for nine years to make a film.
It was a great experience to be involved, old school style, in the creation of the short, from the writing of the script and dialogue, through the storyboard, the final drawings, the performing and recording of the voices, the creation and syncing of the foley and sound effects, the composing and performance and recording of the score, and the final mixing.
I attended the Academy Award ceremony for Richard’s La Salla…… maybe more about THAT adventure later….. and I remember coming home from LA after not winning the Oscar, and being told by our daughter that one of her classmates had told her, sing song:
“Hahahaha. Your Dad’s a loser!”
Clearly, creativity had better be its own reward, as the solitude necessary for productive thought can thin the skin, making you and your family vulnerable to sticks, stones, and the venom of a nine year old child.
Below is a link to the animation page on the Apparition Music website where you can watch the animations.
I hope you enjoy them.
